Most Popular Chihuahua Mixes
Chihuahuas are one of the most recognizable dog breeds. Being the smallest of them all, they have a celebrity-like status. The baby Yoda of the canine world sometimes fell in love with other breeds and magic happens. Few things are as cute as a nice, creative Chihuahua Mix. So, it’s time to check the most popular Chihuahua Mixes we know of! But first…
The Chihuahua itself
Don’t let their volume fool you. Chihuahuas have an ego, a strong personality that’s hardly matched in the dogs’ world. What they lack in size, they have in character.
Chihuahuas come from Mexico, from the State of Chihuahua. They are quite active, have one of the largest life expectancies of all dogs and are usually brave, playful, and stubborn.
Chihuahuas are popular for their looks, sure, but also for their connection with humans. They are sensitive, protective and one of the best companion dogs. They’re all about sitting on your lap and rubbing that little tail against you. It’s easy to understand why they are utilized as therapy dogs.
Being so popular, it’s a no-brainer that people love to mix Chihuahuas with other dog breeds. Let’s check some of the most popular Chihuahua Mixes, then.
The Chug. A Pug meets Chihuahua mix.
Oh yes, a match made in heaven. What happens when you mix two small, sociable, gentle dog breeds? The Chug happens. A combination of a Chihuahua and a Pug ends up being not only cute but also a very affectionate dog.
It also comes with an advantage over pure Chihuahuas: because they are half-pugs, they are a lot more child-friendly than Chihuahuas. They are as goofy and tender as they come.
Also known as: Pughuahua.
The Chispaniel. Cocker Spaniel meets Chihuahua mix.
A Cocker Spaniel and a Chihuahua mix is also one of the most popular you can find. With most of them inheriting the floppy Spaniel-like ears in a Chihuahua bulk it’s hard not to feel attracted to this mix.
They are obedient, playful and rather social dogs. Unlike purebred Chihuahuas, they lack the watchdog trait, given the fact that they are half-Spaniels. Oh, and they are as energic as a taurine-packed soda can.
Also known as: Chipaniel, Chi-Spaniel.
The Chiweenie. Dachshund meets Chihuahua mix.
This one looks like it was taken directly from the pages of a sci-fi book. The sausage-like Dachshund X Chihuahua became highly popular in the last few decades. Visually striking, they normally keep the long Dachshund bodies in a smaller size. Their ears can be either from one or another breed.
When it comes to personality, they are very attached to their owner and love a good run through the garden. As purebreds Chihuahuas and Dachsunds, the Chiweenie is not so good with children, especially under 10 years old.
Also known as: Chi-weenie, Chiweeni, Dachuahua.
The Min Chin. Miniature Pinscher meets Chihuahua mix.
First of all, this must be the coolest name of the bunch. The Min Chin is a mix between two of the smallest, needy dog breeds and the result is amazing. They usually come with Pinscher ears and Chihuahua eyes.
They are great around family, not so much around strangers. They are prone to bark a little too much and have high energy levels that you must take care of. Like the Chiweenie, they aren’t suited for toddlers because of their fragile nature.
Also known as: Chipin, Minchi.
The JackChi. Jack Russel meets Chihuahua mix.
A popular, yet rare mix is the one between Jack Russels and Chihuahuas. Physically it ends up being a more bulky Chihuahua, with the muscular looks of the Jack Russel in an almost-unnoticeable smaller size. They are the mix that requires most exercise, given the energy levels, but it sure pays off: it’s a uber-agile dog with an ongoing motor.
The Jack Russel personality makes this one a quiet dog breed. They are also the top mix when it comes to suitability to kids and strangers. Nice, very active dogs that will easily be the star of the household. You just have to tire them out.
Also know as: ChiRussel, Jackhuahua.
The Cheagle. Beagle meets Chihuahua mix.
One of the cutest mixes, the Cheagle inherits its floppy ears from the Beagle and its short, curled tail from the Chihuahuas. They are shorthaired and smaller than purebred Beagles, but also more alert and cheerful than those.
Regarding the personality of the dog, it’s hard to predict or distinguish a single pattern. The two parental breeds aren’t exactly alike when it comes to behavior. They are affectionate, yet jealous. They are suitable around children but require supervision. One thing they all have in common is their high pitch bark, a trait shared with both breeds.
Also known as: Beaghuahua.
The Chipit. Pitbull Terrier meets Chihuahua mix.
Last but least, the Chipit. An adorable mix of two popular breeds. This crossbreed ensures this dog has the energy of a Chihuahua with the personality of a Pitbull. Expect longer, pointy ears and a ponderous body. Color and coat are quite diverse, as they come in all colors and sizes.
The Chipit tends to be gentle and affectionate with the family and other pets, especially when coming to the household as a puppy. The Pitbull instinct is there still, so expect him to a little more aggressive if bored or taunted. They don’t have the energy of a JackChi, but require a good amount of exercise nonetheless.
Also know as: Chitpit, Pithuahua.
